Travelling Through... London, the World and Life
Emma talks (and often walks) with her guests in different locations, hearing their experiences of London, the world, and life, and discovering what choices they are making to redefine themselves along the way. The conversations are geared to inspire, entertain, and bring a little more breadth to the way you yourself may be thinking - wherever you are in the world.

ADAM WELLS is a transitional life coach. He has walked the Camino de Santiago twice as well as other routes leading to Santiago de Compestella. This can take many years and Adam's aim is to set you on that path through one-to-one coaching alongside walking what he calls the London Camino.
Adam was born in London, spent his early childhood abroad including Spain. This early experience has influenced many of the decisions he has taken through life culminating in the creation of adamwells.com.

Esra Kizir Gokcen was born, raised and indeed had begun raising her own family in Istanbul, Turkey. She studied graphic design in Istanbul and taught art to pupils in a small studio. However life changed dramatically for Esra following the sudden and unexpected death of her husband, and four years ago she took the courageous decision to bring her children to London to begin a new life chapter for them all.
Esra's story is one of new beginnings, finding her artistic style and developing new techniques. Her life has always been about art and during our chat we explore how moving to London has influenced her style as well as playing such an important part in better understanding people's migration stories, and the more vulnerable stories surrounding globalisation, the refugees crisis, and the forced movement of people across the world.
Esra's studio is based at Make Space Studios in Waterloo (London SE1) and she has contributed to a number of recent exhibtions with The Artists' Pool (https://www.theartistspool.co.uk/) held in London and Edinburgh.

KATE FRAME is Head of Conservation Care and Collections at Historic Royal Palaces in London. Kate was born in Canada and is one of seven children. Her father had a career in mining which took the family to many unique places in the world during the 1960s and 1970s. She was a conservation student in London, and worked in Toronto, Canada before moving to London in the late 1990s.
THIS IS KATE’S UNIQUE STORY ABOUT LONDON, THE WORLD AND LIFE.
"You know there’s just different definitions of home.
I think London’s my home,
But my family and my heart is Canadian.
It’s complicated,
Because you have to be something,
You can consider yourself an international citizen,
But fundamentally in your heart, you have to be something,
You have to have some kind of identity,
And I can’t be anything but Canadian..."

015 Why Do You Put Beer In The Batter? - RITA ABREU talks about The London Pull
Tuesday Jul 28, 2020
Tuesday Jul 28, 2020
RITA ABREU is a photographer, a writer and a multilingual tour guide in the UK. She was born and brought up in Portugal and from an early age she has been fascinated by maps and travel. After University, Rita moved to Lisbon, then to Ireland and finally to London, and through her work as a tour guide she has travelled extensively throughout the UK and abroad. Although Rita moved out of London for a couple of years, the pull and energy of London has brought her back.
THIS IS RITA’S UNIQUE STORY ABOUT LONDON, THE WORLD AND LIFE.
"It’s about being curious and open,
And immersing yourself,
And being curious in the way, ok, how do you do this?
You can compare it to yourself,
It’s more about, show me how you do this, let’s do this together.
And also, why do you put beer in the batter for fish and chips?
Why do you have Sunday roast every Sunday?
What makes British be British?
The discovery, this childlike curiosity, of seeing things fresh.
I think London changes you a lot,
If you want that change, it changes you,
The energy, the pull,
If you want to make something happen, you can.
In the middle of foreigners you feel home."

014 The City Can Send You Giddy - RILEXIE RENEE talks about The London Pull
Tuesday Jul 21, 2020
Tuesday Jul 21, 2020
RILEXIE RENEE is an artist and a children’s writer. Her artwork is inspired by her brain’s interpretation of music into seeing colours. This is now known as synesthesia. Renee’s sensitivity to sound and sound frequencies has had a huge impact on her life since she was a child. Renee is a Guyanese Amerindian whose family moved to New York as a result of unsettled times and conflict in Guyana during the country's fledgling years as a Republic - Renee was but a young girl at the time. Renee’s transition from a career in finance in New York City to being an artist in London is but one small part of her fascinating story so far.
THIS IS RENEE’S UNIQUE STORY ABOUT LONDON, THE WORLD AND LIFE.
“Embrace the culture of Britain,
Embrace people, embrace yourself.
Surround yourself with good people.
When things go wrong, you take it,
You have to look back in appreciation because it makes you learn.
Without the appreciation for people around me,
Without the people I know and without the people I’ve met along the way,
I probably wouldn’t have loved London.
Along the way you shuffle out of your life the people who are supposed to be there,
and those who are not supposed to be there.
And you find your reason,
I’ve learned all that while I have been in London.
It could be a city that sends you in a giddy because there is so much happening,
So many layers, and we all come for different reasons.”

ANDY GEORGE said, "The only thing I knew about life was that I didn’t want to live in London." It's now 2020 and he has followed his dream to work in the arts and theatre world, and is currently well entrenched in London as one of the founding directors of the successful Vault Festival. This is a winter theatre festival aiming "to bring colour and a bit of joy to the world" during the drab London months of January - March. Andy's story is one of finding connections between people and theatre, landscape and the city and creating one's identity and connection with people away from the work place. As well as a great fan of travelling, Andy is a huge fan of the parks, woods and forests around London where you can be connected to the city, yet also separate from it.
“Explore locally,
You don’t have to go halfway around the world to explore,
There’s so much to be discovered in your local area,
Discover around what’s around you”
THIS IS ANDY'S UNIQUE STORY ABOUT LONDON, THE WORLD AND LIFE.

At the Vault Festival https://vaultfestival.com/ this year's festival was cut short by the corona virus outbreak.
Please, please come along next year and suppport Vault Festival 2021.
"Showcasing the best of emerging artists in the capital and in the country a platform to express themselves and audiences to discover new work. Beautiful way to bring together humans and they can share their stories and we can learn from each other."
