BACKGROUND...
Margit studied Graphic Design in Utrecht and came to London 25 years ago for two weeks of work experience at The Body Shop. After qualifying she came back to London and worked for The Body Shop under the incredible leadership of Anita Roddick; then to Saatchi & Saatchi which she says, “put hair on my teeth” and finally to The Good Agency which brought her two previous job experiences and styles together into one job.
Margit's fondest memory of Holland is living in an anti-squat building for the Council with 16 other students.
MARGIT'S LONDON MUSINGS...
In London Margit feels she can be herself.
Speaking English well enough to communicate her ideas was challenging in the beginning.
Her Dutch bicycle is her “horse”, and her freedom, her way to explore areas in London, she otherwise travels at the front of a London bus.
She loves going to the V&A, and the British Museum.
She likes Greenwich Park or Primrose Park for picnics and loves Burgess Park to go jogging.
“Innit” is her favourite London phrase.
Her favourite street food is a falafel wrap, from All That Falafel at London Bridge.
She is a cinema-goer when she has time and goes to the Peckhamplex. All tickets are £4.99.
She loves cycling along the river from Richmond to Kingston-upon-Thames; or from Greenwich to the Thames Barrier.
She prefers dinner at home.
She encourages you to wander, explore the areas of London, and talk to people.
Go to the Duck and Waffle in Liverpool Street, with its glass elevator and incredible view. Have a drink and come down, you don’t have to eat at the restaurant.
Margit likes to ask the locals where they would go if they only had two hours in their area. Where would they eat?
OTHER MUSINGS...
Margit would love to live in the Amazon jungle, she has never been but it is her dream home, “basic, simple and in the middle of nature”.
Every day she is wandering, whether in the garden, to the shops on her bicycle, or pottering around at home.
If she wakes after a dream she will get out of bed, go to the loo and sleepily record her dream on her phone so she doesn’t forget it.
Visiting Brazil and the favelas as a creative, to help them come up with ideas to make fairtrade products had a big impact on her. You can view the fairtrade products at https://www.barbosa.nl/
The I am Squarehead series of books can be found in Daunt Books, South London Gallery and online.

The Peckham Bird blackboard has been going for 6 years. Everyday inspiration from the ether, internet, people who are passing by, inspiration comes from everywhere. Today’s inspiration for her Peckham Bird blackboard “Wonder is the Beginning of Wisdom” came from the top of a Clark’s shoebox – no offence to Socrates.
